The upper on the Challenger ATR 7 has has been simplified. It is now lighter with a seamless feel built to be friendly on the feet for long outings. They introduced an extended heel tab for easier entry into the shoe. The laces are made of recycled poly materials. Compared to the previous model the ATR 7 upper is softer and lighter.

Hoka created a molded EVA sockliner to provide additional cushion and softness from the foot strike to the toe off. Additionally, the molded EVA sockliner allows runners and walkers to use the Challenger ATR 7 for long durations right out of the box without having to break the shoe in.
